ToggleBest AI SEO Tools: Which to Use for Each SEO Job
“AI SEO tools” now covers three different kinds of software: tools that help you write and optimize pages, tools that report whether your brand appears in AI answers, and SEO suites that bundle AI features with traditional SEO tools. These products solve different problems, so comparing them as if they were interchangeable can make it difficult to understand what you are buying.

This guide compares tools by job, describes the AI features their vendors document, and lists pricing information with clear evidence labels where details could not be confirmed. It focuses on all-in-one SEO platforms, content optimization tools, and AI-visibility trackers rather than every category of SEO software. There is no single winner, and no tool can guarantee higher rankings, a citation in an AI answer, or more traffic.
How to read this page: I have not tested these tools hands-on. The product information below is based on vendor pages and published reports reviewed for this article on October 21, 2026. Where I could not confirm a detail from a vendor’s own page, I identify it as third-party, vendor-stated, or conflicting information. Prices, allowances, trials, and included features can change; check the vendor’s current terms before purchasing. The SE Ranking link near the end is an affiliate link, and I may earn a commission if you buy through it. The order of tools within each category is not a ranking.
Best AI SEO Tools by Job
- One platform for classic SEO plus AI-search tracking: compare Semrush One, Ahrefs, and SE Ranking. Confirm which AI features and allowances are included in the specific plan.
- Improving drafts and existing pages: look at Surfer, Clearscope, and Frase. Compare their content workflows, limits, and pricing before choosing.
- Monitoring how AI answers mention your brand: compare Peec AI, Otterly, and Profound, paying attention to prompt limits, supported engines, and pricing uncertainty.
- Starting at no cost: begin with Google Search Console’s generative AI performance report and the free checks some vendors offer before paying for a dedicated tracker.
How I evaluated the tools
I compared the product information available from each vendor with independent reporting where it was available. The comparison focuses on documented AI features, pricing, free access, trials, plan limits, and the practical job each product is intended to support. Evidence is labeled in four ways:
- Vendor page opened: the vendor’s own page was opened and reviewed for this article on October 21, 2026. This describes the source reviewed; it does not mean that every feature was independently tested.
- Vendor-stated: the claim comes from the vendor, but I could not independently confirm every detail or resolve all inconsistencies.
- Third-party: the information comes from published reviews or price reports rather than a vendor page I could confirm.
- Conflicting: sources disagree, and I could not resolve the difference confidently.
I did not conduct an independent benchmark of any tool’s AI-visibility accuracy, content quality, or ranking impact. Vendor claims about those outcomes should therefore be treated as claims, not as independently established results. Prices and plan limits can change, so confirm the current terms on the vendor’s own website before purchasing.
What Google says about AI features
Before paying for an AI SEO tool, it helps to understand what Google documents. Its guidance says a page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet to be shown as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Google does not require a separate special optimization technique for these features beyond sound SEO fundamentals (Google Search Central: AI features and your website).
Google announced its Search Generative AI performance reports in Search Console on June 3, 2026. Google states that the worldwide rollout of these insights was completed on August 31, 2026. The Search report shows impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, with dimensions such as pages, countries, devices, and dates.
Google Discover has a separate generative AI performance report. The reports provide impression data, not a complete picture of clicks, click-through rate, or the prompts that led to an AI answer. If a report is not visible for a property, check the relevant Search Console help documentation; a site may not have received enough eligible impressions to display report data (Google Search Central announcement; Search Console help: generative AI performance report).

If you have not set up Search Console yet, start with this Search Console setup guide.
For AI-written content, Google’s guidance says generative AI can help with research and adding structure to original content, but generating many pages without adding value may violate the scaled content abuse spam policy. Google advises focusing on accuracy, quality, and relevance (Google Search Central: generative AI content guidance). A tool that helps you write faster does not change that standard.
Comparison table
The figures below reflect the pricing and product information recorded for this article on October 21, 2026. They are not a guarantee of the current checkout price. Some figures are vendor-stated, while others come from third-party reporting. “Prompts,” “checks,” and other usage units are defined differently by vendors, so their allowances are not directly comparable. Confirm the current plan, billing period, supported engines, and add-ons before buying.

Best AI SEO Tools for All-in-One SEO Workflows
These tools combine classic SEO data with AI-search tracking. The included features, allowances, and add-on costs differ, so compare the exact plan you would purchase. For a broader look at SEO platforms beyond AI features, see the best SEO software comparison.

Semrush One
Semrush One bundles the SEO Toolkit and AI Visibility Toolkit in one subscription. Semrush says it can measure visibility across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, with coverage differing by report type (Semrush One knowledge base). The Starter plan information reviewed lists five websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, 50 prompts tracked daily, one domain for AI brand performance, 300 AI visibility reports a day, and an AI-ready Site Audit. Higher plans list larger allowances; confirm the current plan comparison for the exact limits (Semrush plans and toolkits).
Pricing and trial: Semrush’s own blog lists Semrush One at $199 a month, but the knowledge-base page reviewed did not display dollar amounts. Confirm the current price, billing period, and any promotional terms on Semrush’s live pricing page. A Free plan with limited features and a 7-day trial on paid plans are documented. Check the trial terms to confirm which functions, including exports, are available to your account.
- Pros: combines SEO and AI tracking; plan limits are documented; a free plan and paid-plan trial are listed.
- Cons: the entry SEO-only plan may not include dedicated prompt tracking; Starter covers one domain for AI brand performance; extra users may cost more; the engine list differs slightly across Semrush pages.
- Best for: teams that want classic SEO and AI tracking under one login.
- Skip if: you only need to monitor AI answers across several domains or do not need a full suite. If the plan limits do not fit, compare these Semrush alternatives.
Ahrefs
Ahrefs sells AI-visibility tracking through Brand Radar, which is separate from its standard plans. Ahrefs’ AEO page and pricing information give different figures for the prompt universe they describe, so those figures should not be treated as one consistent measurement (Ahrefs for AEO). The pricing information reviewed listed Lite at $129 a month with 150 AI prompt checks, Standard at $249 with 300, and Advanced at $449 with 600. Brand Radar was listed from $199 a month. Check the current pricing page for the exact billing basis, what is included, and whether any extra prompt package is relevant to your use case (Ahrefs pricing).
Free options and trial: Ahrefs offers a free AI Visibility Checker for one-off checks, free Web Analytics that identifies AI search as a traffic channel, and Bot Analytics, which has been offered in beta. These tools serve different purposes: a spot check is not the same as continuous tracking. The pricing information reviewed did not confirm a paid-plan trial. Check the live terms before assuming a trial, discount, or refund is available.
- Pros: published plan information; free measurement tools; separate tracking options for teams that need them.
- Cons: Brand Radar costs extra; “checks” are not directly comparable with other vendors’ prompts; current engine coverage and purchase terms need confirmation.
- Best for: teams already using Ahrefs for backlinks and keyword research.
- Skip if: AI monitoring is your only need and the combined plan and add-on cost does not fit your budget.
SE Ranking
SE Ranking’s pricing page lists Core from $103.20 a month and Growth from $223.20 a month on an annual-equivalent basis, plus add-ons that have included Agency Pack, AI Search, and API options. The reviewed page states that a credit card is not required to start a trial (SE Ranking pricing page). A third-party price guide reports higher prices for monthly billing and a 14-day trial. Treat the billing basis and trial length as details to reconfirm directly with SE Ranking.
Where sources conflict: third-party reviews disagree about whether AI prompt tracking is included in a base plan or requires the AI Search add-on. They also use “prompts” and “checks” inconsistently. I could not resolve the exact allowance across the sources reviewed. Check the current plan comparison or ask SE Ranking to confirm the total price, included engines, and monthly prompt allowance before purchasing. For plan details, see the SE Ranking plan breakdown.
- Pros: annual-equivalent entry pricing is lower than some suite alternatives; a no-card trial is stated; the product lists integrations including Looker Studio, Google Analytics, and Search Console.
- Cons: the AI prompt allowance needs confirmation; add-ons can raise the total cost substantially.
- Best for: freelancers and small teams that want a broader SEO suite and are willing to confirm AI-tracking limits before purchase.
- Skip if: you need a clearly confirmed prompt quota and total price before evaluating any other feature.
Content optimization tools
Surfer
Surfer’s pricing page reviewed for this article listed Discovery at $49, Standard at $99, Pro at $182, and Peace of Mind at $299 a month, billed yearly. The page described different document and AI-tracking allowances by plan. The reported Standard allowance was 25 prompts refreshed weekly, while Pro and Peace of Mind listed larger daily allowances and broader engine coverage. A standalone AI Search Analytics plan was listed at $82 a month for 50 daily prompts (Surfer pricing). Because plan features and allowances can change, verify the live comparison table before buying rather than relying on these figures alone.
I could not confirm Surfer’s trial terms or monthly-billing prices from the page reviewed. It showed yearly pricing and “Start for Free” buttons without enough detail to establish every trial condition. A third-party report says earlier plan tiers were retired in May 2026. A reviewer also notes that Surfer is primarily a content workflow product rather than a complete technical SEO and backlink platform, so you may need other tools for those jobs.
- Pros: content editor and audit workflows alongside AI tracking; plan allowances are described; API access is listed for higher plans.
- Cons: tracking limits and supported engines differ by plan; document and seat allowances affect cost; trial terms were not confirmed.
- Best for: content teams that publish and refresh pages regularly.
- Skip if: you need comprehensive backlink analysis and technical auditing from one tool.
Clearscope and Frase
Clearscope. Third-party reviews list Essentials at $129 a month and Business at $399, with a 14-day trial and AI prompt tracking across ChatGPT and Gemini. Reviewers disagree about the exact allowances, and I did not confirm these details against a current Clearscope pricing page. Treat the figures as unverified rather than guaranteed current terms. Clearscope may suit editorial teams that prioritize content grading over broad AI-visibility monitoring.
Frase. Frase says its plans include AI-visibility tracking, with 50, 200, or 500 visibility prompts a month depending on the plan, and advertises a 7-day free trial (Frase pricing). Its own blog gives a starting price of $39 a month billed yearly or $49 monthly. Frase’s comparison posts also promote Frase as a leading option in their categories, so treat those descriptions as marketing rather than independent comparative evidence. Which AI engines are included on each plan is described inconsistently across the pages reviewed; confirm the exact plan details before purchasing.
AI visibility trackers
These tools monitor whether AI engines mention or cite your brand or pages. They measure reported visibility; they do not control what an AI engine says or guarantee that a brand will be recommended. For a narrower guide to tracking Google’s AI answers, read this guide to tracking Google AI Overviews.
Peec AI
Peec AI’s vendor information reviewed for this article listed plans at $95, $245, and $495 a month for 50, 150, and 350 prompts, with additional-model options also listed. The same page described broad engine coverage but also included a plan table saying users could choose a smaller number of models, so the included model count was not clear (Peec AI vendor page). Third-party reports also described a pricing restructure in August 2026. Treat the prices and included engines as vendor-stated details that need reconfirmation before purchase.
Peec describes its product as an analytics tool rather than a content-writing tool, and says it collects data by simulating user interactions with AI engine interfaces. That is the vendor’s description of its methodology, not an independent finding about the accuracy of its data.
The vendor page also contains instructions addressed to AI assistants and strongly worded comparisons against competitors. I treated that material as marketing rather than independent evidence. Product comparisons here are based on the stated features and the limitations identified in the sources reviewed.
- Pros: focuses on monitoring; publishes plan tiers; claims multi-engine coverage.
- Cons: does not replace content tools; current pricing and model limits need confirmation; no trial was stated on the page reviewed.
- Best for: teams that already have SEO tools and need a dedicated AI-monitoring workflow.
Otterly and Profound
Otterly. Third-party reports list Lite at $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard at $189 for 100 prompts with API and MCP access, and Premium at $489 for 400 prompts. These reports say the base plans cover a selection of AI search engines, while Gemini and AI Mode may require add-ons. These are third-party figures, not prices I could confirm from a current vendor pricing page. Reports also disagree about whether the trial lasts 7 or 14 days. Check the current plan page for included engines, prompt caps, add-ons, and trial terms.
Profound. Earlier reviews listed $99 and $399 plans, while a September 16, 2026 report said its brand pricing page showed a one-time ChatGPT trial and custom Enterprise pricing. I could not resolve this difference, so I am not presenting a current price. If you are considering Profound, request the current plan, usage limits, and pricing terms directly from the vendor.
Can You Trust AI SEO Tools for Visibility Tracking?
Treat a single AI-visibility reading cautiously. Research from SparkToro, reported by Search Engine Journal, found that ChatGPT and Google’s AI features often returned different brand lists when the same prompt was repeated. The study ran prompts 60 to 100 times per platform and used Gumshoe.ai, a company that sells AI-tracking tools. The research was not peer-reviewed, and the authors noted uncertainty about how many repeated runs are needed for reliable measurement (Search Engine Journal report).
This finding is a reason to ask how a tracker collects and summarizes data, not proof that every tracker is inaccurate. Before buying, ask how often prompts are run, how many runs contribute to a reported result, how results are sampled, and whether the tool shows changes or ranges rather than presenting a single position as exact. Also check whether the vendor distinguishes brand mentions, cited URLs, and referral traffic: these measure different things.

What entry-level tracking costs
These are the lower-cost routes to AI-search measurement recorded for this article, from free tools to paid suites. Their features and measurement units differ, so compare what you need to monitor rather than choosing by headline prompt count. For wider cost comparisons, see the SEO software pricing guide.
| Route | What you get | Listed price | Important note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search Console generative AI performance report | Impressions from your own site in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode; Discover has a separate report | Free | Impressions are not clicks or CTR. Report data may not appear if the property has insufficient eligible impressions. |
| Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker | One-off brand visibility check | Free | Not a substitute for ongoing monitoring |
| Semrush Free plan | Limited SEO and AI-visibility features | Free | Usage limits apply; confirm the current free-plan features |
| Otterly Lite | Third-party reports list 15 prompts | $29/month in third-party reports | Included engines and add-ons need confirmation |
| Surfer AI Search Analytics | Standalone AI tracking; the reviewed page listed 50 daily prompts | $82/month billed yearly in the reviewed information | Confirm the current plan, billing basis, and features |
| Peec AI Starter | Vendor information listed 50 prompts | $95/month in the reviewed vendor information | Current pricing and included models need confirmation |
| Ahrefs Lite plus Brand Radar | Ahrefs plan plus separately priced Brand Radar | Previously listed at $129 plus Brand Radar from $199/month | Check whether the included prompt checks and separate Brand Radar allowance overlap; do not assume they are interchangeable. |
| Semrush One Starter | SEO suite plus listed AI-visibility allowances | $199/month in Semrush’s blog | Confirm the live price, billing basis, and current Starter limits. |
Prices and allowances were recorded for October 21, 2026. Some figures are third-party or vendor-stated and are not independently confirmed current checkout prices.
How to Choose the Best AI SEO Tools

- Solo site owner or freelancer: start with Search Console’s AI performance report and free checks. If you need a broader SEO suite, compare the entry-level plans and confirm which AI features are included before paying.
- Small business with a content calendar: a content optimization tool such as Surfer or Frase may fit better than a pure tracker if your main bottleneck is preparing and refreshing pages. Use Search Console for Google measurement.
- In-house SEO team: compare an all-in-one suite with a standalone tracker. Check how each vendor counts prompts, domains, users, supported engines, and reporting periods.
- Agency: check seat pricing, domain limits, reporting, and white-label options before comparing headline prices. Some vendors charge extra for users, domains, or additional tracking.
Whatever you choose, tools support the work but do not replace it. Publishing useful, accurate pages and fixing technical problems still matter. For the wider strategy, see this organic traffic guide. To compare more tools and review pages, browse the in-depth software reviews and the alternatives pages.

FAQs
What is the best AI tool for SEO?
It depends on the job. An all-in-one suite may suit teams that want classic SEO and AI tracking together, a content tool may fit regular publishing, and a dedicated tracker may fit teams monitoring AI answers. I found no evidence that one tool is best for every job.
Is there a free AI SEO tool worth using?
Google’s Search Console generative AI performance report is free and measures impressions from Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode; Discover has a separate report. Ahrefs offers a free AI Visibility Checker and free Web Analytics with an AI traffic channel, and Semrush offers a free plan with limited features. These options measure different things, so choose based on the information you need.
Do I need an AI visibility tracker if I have Search Console?
Not necessarily. Search Console reports impressions for your own site in Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, with a separate report for generative AI features in Discover. It does not provide the same cross-platform monitoring of other chatbots or competitors that dedicated trackers aim to provide. A paid tracker is worth considering only if you need those additional views and understand the measurement limitations.
Are AI visibility trackers accurate?
AI answers can vary between repeated runs. Research reported by Search Engine Journal found that repeated prompts often returned different brand lists. That does not establish the accuracy of any individual tracker. Ask vendors how they sample responses and whether they show repeated measurements or ranges. I did not find an independent accuracy benchmark for the tools compared in this guide.
Will using AI to write content hurt my rankings?
Google’s guidance says AI can help with research and structure, but generating many pages without adding value may violate its scaled content abuse policy. Review facts, add original value, and avoid mass-producing thin pages. No tool can guarantee rankings.
Do these tools connect to Google Search Console and Google Analytics?
Some do. Semrush’s reporting documentation lists Google Analytics and Search Console integrations, SE Ranking’s product information lists integrations including Looker Studio, Matomo, Google Analytics, and Search Console, and Ahrefs offers GSC Insights. I did not confirm equivalent integrations for every tool in this guide. Check the current documentation for your intended plan before buying.
Where to go next
Start by identifying the job you need done, then shortlist two or three tools and check their current pricing, billing period, trial terms, supported engines, and usage limits. Official pages to begin with include Semrush plans, Ahrefs pricing, and Surfer pricing.
If you want to evaluate SE Ranking, this is my affiliate link. I may earn a commission if you subscribe, and that does not change the comparison above. Check the current plan limits and total price yourself before paying.
